In Memory of Lenny Boots.

I wanted to dedicate this Slumber Pawty to Lenny Boots, the sweetest girl.

Before her, I had never really looked at cats the way I do now. She taught me slowly, completely, how to win over a curious kitty girl, how to earn her trust, how to speak her language. And it was so worth it. My sweet girl, who I would share my food and treats with, who loved playing on the stairs with her little ball, who would curl up with me watching Korean shows like we had all the time in the world. She let me love her, and in doing so, she taught me what love really looks like.

Because of one little girl, I now share my home with four beautiful fur babies. Because of her, I see all animals differently, as the beings they truly are: feeling, deserving, worthy of protection and love. That shift quietly changed what I put on my plate, how I move through the world, how I see the creatures most people overlook. Insects, mice, the living things we pass without a second glance. She taught me to see everything in a different light, and I will forever be grateful for the time we had together.

One beautiful kitty girl did all of that. A beautiful gift from the universe. She was resilient and brave in ways that humbled me. The world was not always fair to her, but she never let that dim her light. She was a fighter, and yet she loved so deeply, so fully. That combination of strength and softness is something I carry with me every day. She was my niece, but to me she was also my daughter. She stole a piece of my heart that I will never get back, and I think of her every single day. Her sweetness, her beautiful heart. Losing her has been one of my biggest heartaches. I miss her so much. But I know that one day we will be reunited.

Lenny Boots is why I'm supporting the Shelter Slumber Pawty on April 18th. She's why this work matters to me so deeply and personally. And she's the reason I believe so fiercely that every shelter animal waiting for their person has the power to change a life, if we just give them the chance.
