At the Marion County Animal Shelter, we maintain a medical fund of $2,000 at all times to ensure immediate care for emergencies. We frequently intake animals with various injuries, such as embedded collars, gunshot wounds, dog attacks, eye injuries, leg injuries, and other minor injuries. By having an established medical fund, we can provide urgent medical attention to animals in need without delay.
Blare is a recent case from March 2025 that benefitted from our medical fund. Blare was taken in by the local fire department, where she quickly became a beloved member of the team. However, during a fire call, Blare got out of the truck at the scene and suffered severe burns to her back feet. The firefighters were unaware of her absence until they returned to the station and realized she was missing. They promptly went back to find Blare injured and contacted us for help. We immediately took Blare to our vet, who confirmed her severe paw burns. Blare is currently receiving antibiotics, daily bandage changes, and lots of love for being the bravest girl!
