Addie's Shelter Slumber Pawty

I've been volunteering at Brass City Rescue Alliance for over a year now, coming every weekend and any day in between that I can, and it has truly become a home away from home for me. This place is so loving, so caring, so selfless. I've worked with many dogs during my time there—the happy ones, bouncing around and wagging their tails, the sad ones, reluctant to eat and even more reluctant to play, the scared ones who cower in their kennels, the guarded, defensive ones who just need someone to be firm with them and let them know that they're safe. All of these dogs hold a special place in my heart. The sad reality is that they spend most of their time stuck in kennels, though all of us volunteers do our best to change that. We are all doing the best we can, but more is always needed, so when our boss mentioned this event to us, we all very readily jumped on board. Sleeping in a kennel with a dog, surrounded by all the amazing friends we've made here? Sign us up! Providing these dogs with love and comfort through the night? Double win! It was a no-brainer for us because we would do anything to help these dogs. I will be sleeping with Brooklyn, my baby boy. He and I have really connected. He's one of the more difficult dogs at the shelter, he needs someone to be firm with him and d correct him when needed. I'm so happy to be that person for him. I've started taking him to training, at first once a week, but lately twice and he has been flourishing. The stimulation and socialization is amazing for him. He's super smart and turns out, he just needed a place to show that off and gain some guidance along the way. All he needs is some love and understanding, and I can provide that until he finds his forever home.
