Why am I doing this? Fostering for ECCHA is an incredibly rewarding experience. Each of my foster animals keep a bit of my heart. Once in a while, one comes along that takes a giant piece of it. One of those animals is my current foster, Puddin Cup. Puddin has had a life of bad luck.
Just hitting two years old, Puddin has spent nearly all her life in shelter systems. Last Fall, she was transported from Texas to Wisconsin, was suffering extreme hip pain, and was held in inadequate and unsanitary conditions prior to being transferred to ECCHA.
Puddin has been in foster with me since mid-December, shortly after being moved to ECCHA’s care. In that time, it was determined a right rear leg amputation would be in Puddin’s best interest. Unfortunately, her amputation was delayed as pre-surgery blood work revealed she is heartworm positive. Heartworm is common in Texas, but rare in our area. The ECCHA team put in great effort to come up with the best treatment plan for this sweet girl.
Heartworm treatment is a very lengthy and expensive process. Between this and her leg, Puddin’s medical costs are already approaching 6k. This cost will climb as she begins her heartworm injections. It is because of generous funding from our community, animals like Puddin receive the chances they deserve to live happy, pain-free lives.
Despite the pain Puddin has endured, she has remained the absolute sweetest, goofy, and gentle girl. Because of ECCHA and our community, Puddin recently underwent her amputation surgery. Seeing her move around free of pain has brought the happiest tears to my eyes.
Puddin’s life trajectory has changed. While she will be in foster several more months for heartworm treatment, her future is promising. She will end up in a loving forever home. And she will live without pain.
Please help me raise funds so other animals may have their luck changed, too.
