Adopting Bella from Pope Memorial SPCA
Bella’s story is one that is special to me.
At 14 years old, she found herself in the shelter; not by choice, but because her only owner was entering hospice. It’s a situation no pet can understand, and one no animal deserves to face alone. But thanks to Pope Memorial SPCA, Bella had a safe place to land during such an uncertain time.
When I first saw her photo, I couldn’t stop thinking about her. The idea of bringing her home quickly turned into a decision I knew we had to follow through on.
Now, when I look back at those early photos (where she was scared, quiet, and clearly missing companionship) and compare them to today, it’s everything. She’s almost always curled up beside my office chair while I work or sit through Zoom calls. And her purr… it says it all.
This is exactly what the shelter makes possible. They give animals like Bella a chance to feel safe, cared for, and loved again while they wait for their next chapter.
I’m so grateful for everything they do, and so honored to be part of the Shelter Slumber Pawty to help raise funds for animals just like her.

Here at home:
Hi, I’m Amber and I love animals.
Like… really love animals. Honestly, it might be a bit of a problem.
Some of my earliest memories involve my mom taking me to volunteer at animal shelters; walking dogs, scooping cat boxes, and learning very quickly that not every stray cat wants a hug (I even got a tetanus shot after being bitten by a feral cat). Safe to say, helping animals has always been part of my life.
Over the years, that passion has grown in many ways. I’ve fostered kittens in my own home (including bottle-feeding right from my desk at State Police Headquarters) and helped manage social media channels for Pope Memorial SPCA to share the stories of animals waiting for their new homes.
Seeing firsthand how many animals rely on the compassion of our community has made one thing very clear to me - the work Pope Memorial SPCA does is incredibly important.
So, I decided to take that support one step further.
I’ll be spending 24 hours at Pope Memorial SPCA of Concord-Merrimack County, including sleeping overnight in a kennel to experience life inside the shelter and raise funds for the animals who call it home while they wait for a match.
Throughout the experience, I’ll be sharing photos, updates, and maybe even a few videos so you can follow along and see the incredible work the shelter does every single day.
Every dollar raised helps provide food, medical care, enrichment, and safe shelter for animals who need it most.
Please donate.
Your contribution, big or small makes a real difference for the animals at Pope Memorial SPCA.
Thank you for helping me support these amazing animals and the people who care for them.
