About a year and four months ago I stepped into the doors of St. Clair County Animal Services. This was my first time being in an animal control building. I had no expectation, no assumption, and no knowledge of what Animal Control does. What I did know is how anxious I was to get back into the field of working with animals.

My first couple weeks I took notice in the water line I could see on the floor from the flooding. I had no clue what had happened a while back. Anytime the rain would start to get heavy though; I would notice everybody starting to get a little uneasy and checking water levels. I could see it was a true concern and fear of theirs that this could possibly happen again. I remember learning about the plan if we would have to evacuate the animals in case of flooding; which seemed alittle unreal at the time for me. They were prepared and ready.

During the next couple months I started to observe and learn as much as I could. I saw how hard my other two coworkers had been working. I saw my manager Kamrynn running around doing multiple things at once. The amount of things that needed to be done in a day is a daunting task. Plus giving the love attention and time to each one that they so very much deserve. It seemed nearly impossible to say the least. Everybody was and is always busy. Working here is not only daily tasks, that is honestly the least of it. Daily tasks are what need to be done but there is many others things we want to have incorporated in the day to help the animals. This includes play group time, evaluating dogs with other dogs, making enrichment, extra socialization for a dog who needs it, sitting outside of a kennel with a nervous dog to ease their fears, and that list continues to grow as our team grows. We will never stop wanting to do more.

Since I started and now have been here for a little time, I can proudly say SCCAC has been the most internally rewarding job I have ever had. These dogs teach me compassion, unwavering love, restoring trust/faith in the ones who have done them wrong, and most importantly a second chance of life. With support from the community we as a team can provide these animals with everything that they are so deserving of.

Thankyou for the support and if you do not mind sharing this around it would be amazing! This money will help us give the enrichment, medical needs, and daily things these dogs need while staying in the facility. These dogs do not have an advocate. These dogs do not have owners. They have us and with everybody's support we can do our best to get them all the help that they need! Please help us help these babies❤️

I am doing this slumber pawty in hopes of showing everyone just what a kennel environemnt is like. One day is just one day. These dogs spend months here. Not days. MONTHS. Please when supporting try putting yourself in these babies shoes and really imagine this 24 hours but maybe multiple it by the average amount of number that a dog likely spends in a kennel.
