In February 2018, I adopted Luna from HAP (DHA back then!) and knew I would be volunteering there eventually.  Fast-forward to August 2019 and I was being sent home with my first foster dog, Rex, a large, sweet coon hound and I was hooked.  I became involved with shelter events, have fostered more dogs than I can count, became part of the Peppa Rescue Team when Peppa escaped from the shelter, and eventually foster-failed by adopting Aurora.

Shelters can be noisy, stressful, and uncomfortable spaces for animals, so I'm delighted every time my phone rings asking if I can share my home with someone waiting for their fur-ever family.  The fostering program means being able to give a loving pet a break from shelter life, work on their training, and get prepared for a home environment.

Our shelter is participating in a National Shelter Sleepover Pawty on April 18th, and some of our amazing staff and volunteers will spend 24 hours living at the shelter—just like our dogs do every day. They will experience the sounds, the routines, and the long nights, all to help shine a light on what life is really like for the animals in our care.

This isn’t just an event—it’s a chance to make a real difference.

Your donation will help provide food, medical care, enrichment, and support for our foster program so we can continue giving these dogs the second chances they deserve. Every dollar brings us closer to more wagging tails, more happy endings, and more dogs finding their way home.

If you’ve ever hugged a dog after a long day or know the familiar feeling of a wet nose on your cheek, you already understand why this matters so much.

Thank you for supporting me, our shelter, and the incredible dogs who are still waiting for their story to change. :feet:
