My profile picture has two of my very best furr-riends, Duke and Daisy. I met them four years ago at the Kansas Humane Society. When I saw their pictures, I knew they were my babies. They both contracted kennel cough which is extremely common due to the stress companion animals experience in the shelter environment. I fostered them at home until they were cleared and the rest is history. I am so proud to be their person. I also have two other KHS alumni, Carter and Gimli, which are the best cats around! Their weekly celebration of Caturday is an epic event.
A little back story is that my Aunt Trish also worked at an animal shelter in Iowa when I was growing up. She had a service animal that she took around to schools and other organizations to educate them on the value of companion animals. I always dearly admired the work that she did and knew that someday I would do the same. I think of her often.
So today I get the distinct honor of serving the staff members here at KHS as their HR representative. Every day I see the heart and dedication that is put into caring for animals. My career has had me supporting care givers before, but I have never seen such extraordinary humans in my entire life - they are the best of the best. So, when it comes to supporting KHS, it is an easy decision. I see it firsthand and know that I always want to support what we do here because it truly matters.
