Over 10 years ago, I walked into this shelter as a volunteer. Little did I know I’d find a career, a lifelong passion for senior rescue, and even my husband!
This shelter is my heart. I started here as a volunteer in 2015, became a staff member shortly after, and now serve as the Volunteer Coordinator. Darian and I actually met at the old shelter building 9 years ago while he was making his daily UPS deliveries. The Animal Care Shelter has since moved into this beautiful new facility (where he still delivers to us!), but our mission remains the same: saving lives.
Our specific passion for senior and hospice rescue started with one very special soul: Presley. She arrived at the shelter in heartbreaking shape—severely matted, with her long-neglected nails growing painfully into her paw pads. She was over 20 years old, and we took her home for hospice care, thinking we’d just give her a comfortable week or two. Presley had other plans—she thrived with us for two more years. She taught us that "old" doesn't mean "done," and she is the reason our home is now a sanctuary for senior rescues enjoying their golden years.
Darian and I are celebrating our wedding anniversary a little differently this year—by participating in the Shelter Slumber Pawty to give back to the place that started it all. On April 18th, we’re heading back to the shelter for 24 hours to sleep there and advocate for the animals who need us most.
The "Big 6" Goal:
Since we both have June birthdays and our wedding anniversary is April 20th, we’re asking for a $6,000 anniversary wish in Presley’s honor.
Our home is currently full of shelter rescues, but for one night, we’re heading back to where it all began. Will you help us celebrate our love by sharing some love with the shelter?
