Alex's Shelter Slumber Pawty Fundraiser for CAC

I started volunteering because of one dog.
Now I’m spending the night at a shelter… for all of them and the cats too.

Hi, I’m Alex.

In May of 2023, I lost my soul dog, Enzo. Not long after, I started volunteering at Cincinnati Animal Care, thinking I’d give it a try for the summer.

On my very first visit, a dog named Alem came out… and he looked just like Enzo. Same face, same eyes. I spent the day with him, and that was it. I was hooked.

Since then, I’ve day-tripped over 60 dogs and joined the walk team. Most Sundays, you’ll find me at the shelter, leash in hand.

I started this journey because of a dog… but somewhere along the way, the cats started healing parts of me I didn’t even realize needed it.

After a long day, sitting in a room full of kittens, listening to the purring and watching the chaos… it just makes everything feel a little lighter. A little happier. 

Last January, I started fostering kittens and fully leaned into my “crazy cat lady” era. Our family is on foster number 49 and we’re aiming for 100 by the end of the year.

Which brings me to this…

I’ll be participating in the first ever Slumber Pawty at Cincinnati Animal Care. I’ll be in the cat room, spending the night surrounded by furry friends. 

I’m hoping to raise $1,000 to support the more than 9,000 animals that come through the shelter each year. As Hamilton County’s only open-intake shelter, they take in every animal that needs help.
