Meghan Efland's Shelter Slumber Pawty

From 12 PM on Saturday, April 18 through 12 PM on Sunday, April 19, The Animal Care Shelter for Kent County will be hosting its Shelter Slumber Pawty, part of the National Shelter Slumber Pawty; a 24-hour fundraising event bringing shelters across the country together to raise funds and awareness for homeless animals.

I'll have the opportunity to experience what a full day in the life of a shelter animal is really like. I will see the routines, the quiet moments, the excitement, and the waiting. I'm excited to also help share their stories and be part of the care and attention they receive each day.

I’m participating in this fundraiser for the Animal Care Shelter for Kent County because it’s an organization that has meant a great deal to me for many years both as a community member and as a pet parent.

Our two cats, Noodle and Olive, both came from the shelter. Like most shelter success stories, their adoption was made possible by the quiet, behind-the-scenes work the shelter does every day, providing safety, medical care, patience, and compassion while animals wait for their next chapter.

The Animal Care Shelter for Kent County serves animals who may come in scared, abandoned, injured, or simply unlucky. The staff, volunteers, and foster families show up day after day to make sure those animals are cared for, treated with dignity, and given the time they need to find the right home. That work isn’t always easy, but it is always meaningful.
