Sleeping in a shelter kennel for one night to raise $2,500 for CARE’s most vulnerable dogs.

I’ve been volunteering at Cincinnati Animal CARE for about four years now. Most weekends, you’ll find me there—rain, cold, heat, doesn’t matter—walking shelter dogs.

If you know me, you know I tend to gravitate toward the frail ones. The scared ones. The old ones. The ones whose bodies are starting to fail them.

I’ve fostered a lot of them over the years. Some found forever homes, some stayed with me as hospice fosters until the end.

Dogs like Shane, who was blind and could barely get around.

Acapella, a sweet senior girl with a massive tumor.

Zeus, a black lab who was going down in the rear but never stopped smiling.

Stewie, who was dumped with his brothers and sisters and was so terrified at the shelter, he was literally frozen and would not move.

They spend most of their time in kennels. That’s just the reality in shelter life. But they still deserve comfort, care, and someone showing up for them - for a walk, companionship, cuddles....to let them know they MATTER.

So this felt like an easy yes. For one night, I’m giving up my bed to sleep in a kennel at the shelter as part of the Shelter Slumber Pawty to raise money for CARE.

My goal is $2,500. Every dollar goes directly to the dogs—medical care, enrichment, and giving them a better shot while they’re waiting.

If you’ve ever wanted to help the ones who don’t get as much attention, this is your chance to be part of it.

Join me.
