Fundraising for ACSKC’s Shelter Slumber Pawty

In 2019, I adopted a Shepherd named Cleopatra from The Animal Care Shelter for Kent County. We gave her a fresh start with a new name, Luna. I thought I was bringing home a dog, but in reality, she was leading me somewhere I never expected to go.

Because of Luna, I found my way back to ACSKC in 2020. What started with her became something much bigger. Over the past six years, I’ve had the privilege of building my career here, helping share the stories of animals who cannot speak for themselves, and helping them find the families they deserve.

We had five years with Luna. It was not nearly long enough. We said goodbye to her in 2024, but everything I do here exists because of her.

This April, I will be spending 24 hours at ACSKC as part of the Shelter Slumber Pawty, in her honor.

I will be here overnight, not as staff, but as a participant, in the same building where so many animals are still waiting. The same place where Luna’s story with me began.

Luna led me here. This is my way of honoring her and helping the animals whose stories are still waiting to be told.
