I started volunteering with Cincinnati Animal CARE (CAC) in March of 2025 and it has been immensely fulfilling!  CAC is Hamilton County’s only open, stray-intake municipal animal shelter, dedicated to serving people and pets through lifesaving, compassionate, and community-centered care.  In August of 2020, CAC committed to the humane no-kill philosophy. The nationally recognized definition of no-kill is saving the lives of 90% or more of the animals that enter an animal shelter's doors.

My volunteering journey began with helping cats at the Dane location.  I would help clean so the cats would have a clean and comfortable space to reside until they find their forever home.  I love cats so this was so fulfilling and meaningful!  I was able to also spend time with the cats and to play with them and give them affection.  The CAC cats rely heavily on donations to ensure they receive the essentials such as fresh food, water, a soft place to rest, medication and also lifesaving care.

I also wanted to help the dogs out, so decided to try walking the dogs and also doing day trips with dogs! I have done about 17 day trips to date so far and they are a blast!  This is a wonderful, low commitment way to take a dog out of the shelter for a day and have fun!  This helps the dog destress and it also helps the shelter obtain more information about the dog to help find their forever home.

From there, I started my foster journey.  I have fostered multiple dogs through CAC including:  Oliver, Beanie (fka Snugs), Peewee (fka Andy), Finnean, Stella (fka Juliet), Maurice and Fawn.
